My mother was a teacher who holds a masters degree and now is an aerobics instructor.  My father was the Town Treasurer for Hopedale, MA.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST PLAY GUITAR?

I first played guitar at the age of six.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST BAND?

My first band was called Flash. I was 14 years of age.

DO YOU PLAY OTHER INSTRUMENTS?

No, but I fake it on a lot of them.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST GUITAR?

A ukelele that my uncle had made.

WHAT WAS THE FIRST GUITAR THAT YOU BOUGHT?

A Silvertone that my father bought for me.

DID YOU EVER HAVE GUITAR LESSONS?

No

WHAT BANDS WERE YOU IN PRIOR TO AEROSMITH?

I was in six bands before we formed Aerosmith, including Flash, my Hopedale band, a band at the prep school I attended, and the summer band I was in with Tom Hamilton.

HOW DID YOU COME TO FORM AEROSMITH?

I had been in bands with Tom Hamilton for the four summers before. The bands were Pipedream, Plastic Glass, and the Jam Band. We saw Steven playing at The Barn and in the summer of 1970 the Jam Band broke up and we moved to Boston. Steven's band at the time also broke up and we joined together.

WHEN WAS THE FIRST TIME YOU CUT SOMETHING IN THE STUDIO?

The Jam Band cut a test pressing on acetate tape. We had it mastered and then ran off six copies. Unfortunately, due to the quality of the tape, it wore out after a few plays.

WHEN WAS THE FIRST TIME YOU WENT ON TOUR?

The first Aerosmith tour.
