Tom Discusses Rehearsals
Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith

Wow, we're already done rehearsing. It feels like we just started a few days ago.

Maybe because we built up a lot of momentum and things seemed to move faster. Rehearsals are usually made equally of playing. eating, phone calls, laughing and arguing but this time it was mostly the first one and the last two. Once we got started each day we worked steady. You might wonder why we rehearse anyway. Even people we know well ask why we practice songs that we've played for centuries. Maybe we just do it for the fun of it. Most likely its because the easiest way to suck onstage is to think you don't need to rehearse. There's always new gear to try out and organize. We have new techs to break in, too. They have to learn the songs and what we're going to be like to work with so they can do their job of anticipating anything. I made a decision to get deeper into my gear and my tone. I've got new amps and pedals that I'm really excited about. When I bought my first amp as a kid I never dreamed I'd have a stack of them that have over 1000 watts each. Definitely want to be careful climbing into your guitar strap with that kind of power or you'll be picking skull splinters out of your teeth. Or you'll be sorting out splinters from the back of your skull with ones from the front. And they'll be in the next room. Or they'll get into your eye. Or up your nose and you'll sneeze. Or into your cat. Or into your sandwich and you'll choke.

This has gone far enough.
