$100.00 gift card to AF1

Halloween is my FAV time of the year! I mean who doesn't want to be someone else, even if it is just for one day? You can be a princess, a witch, a fairy, whatever you want to be! I tend to overkill the decorations in the yard and always have the scariest costumes. Last year I dressed as Carrie from Stephen King's famous movie/book. I had so much blood dripping from me, it was a wonder that anyone was able to clean that up especially from the taxi cab :) My halloween story is more of a every day thing that would happen at my house. We moved into a HUGE old house that was attached to a building that I used to open a bookshop. The first night in my new house, my husband and I smelt smoke. We started to panic as neither of us smoked, and we thought the house was on fire. It got stronger and stronger as the days went on, and we noticed it was more of a cigar smoke than cigarettes. It got so bad that our eyes would actually start to water from the smell. Finally I asked my parents to come over to see if they could smell it. Turns out they couldn't. Eventually the smell got weaker, but then strange things started to happen around the house. The kitchen mirror cracked all the way down the middle of it, the fridge door would be open all the time, even if nobody was home. The photos on the walls would fall down, whenever i took photos there would appear to be shadows on the walls, but in clear day there was nothing there. We pretty much got used to the idea that there was something just not right with the house, heck even our dogs would stop in the middle of the room and start to bark at thin air. The one dog would even sit down and shake paw to it, and the cats were always stopping and rubbing themselves up against nothing. In the middle of the night we would hear voices and noises coming from the upstairs rooms, but when we would go up there nothing would be there. I really didn't think much of everything that was going on until one day a customer at my bookstore asked me if I had ever felt anything wrong with the house. I thought maybe she had heard the stories I had told my family and friends (who all thought we were crazy and making it up), but she said "well u know that Jim Senior died in this house don't ya?" I had no idea anyone had died in the house, but to make matters worse she told me that "he died in a house fire and fell asleep smoking a cigar!" I got chills at that moment she said that. Then she said "u don't have pets do u?" I said yes we have dogs and 2 cats. She said that he hated cats but loved dogs. That would explain how at first our cats would hiss at the air, and our dogs would shake paw. We had a lot of people come over to figure out why the house was so cold all the time and nobody could figure it out as the heaters worked just fine, but she told me that after Jim died the family would keep the house cold for his spirit. I took everything the lady was saying with a grain of salt, but just to be sure I called up Jim's family and confirmed the story. What his son told me still gives me nightmares. He told me "yes Angie my dad died in the house but he's probably not haunting the house, it's probably all the other ghosts that lived there when i was a kid". I thought he was just kidding till he said "oh yeah and you better get a lock on that fridge of yous" and hung up on me! Needless to say I don't live at the house anymore, but I often wonder what would have happen if we still did.

$50.00 gift card to AF1

Halloween 1998 was an outstanding year! I went as Carrie... And when you decide to go as Carrie you need a lot of blood. I could only afford one bottle of the fancy costume shop blood, which I planned to use for my face, so I had to make the rest of the blood with Dawn dishwashing liquid and red food coloring. So Halloween night I put on this pretty sheer white dress, get my wig on, fix my tiara just so, put on my corsage, and then head outside into the freezing night air so my friends could pour gallons of blood all over me! It was so cold! Now we did manage to get a ride to the bar, but I had to sit on a body coaster (trash bag). I ended up using the body coasters at the bars too so I didn't leave a total trail of blood everywhere I went. I was a disgusting mess, but it was so much fun! I was living in Bloomington, IN at the time, and they had a great local music scene. I entered the Halloween contest at one bar, made it to the finals, but lost... So we headed to a bar on the other side of the strip where Homunculus was playing (my second favorite band, with Aerosmith of course being number 1...)
As we were heading down the street people were stopping their cars and yelling "CARRIE!" out their windows. I loved it! It was fantastic... Made me feel all rock star. When we got to the other bar people were going nuts about my costume. I entered the contest, got to get on stage with Homunculus, and won! It was outstanding. They dressed as a basketball team, so my prize was a basketball that they all signed for me. It was too much fun... Now, I got to bed a little late that night. The next morning I got up a little late too and had to rush to work... I had passed out in full costume. My panty hose were pretty much glued to my legs. I scraped all the blood off the best that I could in the shower, got dressed, hopped a bus, and went into work. I worked at a pretty snooty department store at the time, and when my manager saw my blood streaked face she was less than pleased. I was ordered to go to the make-up counter, get some cold creme, and clean myself off. I was still all bloody looking when I was done. They went ahead and let me work though... we were probably short staffed. And after several days all the blood faded away. It was worth it all though... It really was a stellar costume!

The Devil's got a new......game.
About March of this year a guy at work (Don) was telling a few of us how when he was a little kid he had this recurring dream that the Devil and God were rolling dice to see which one got his soul. The dice would roll and come up snake eyes every time, but he never saw who won. It used to scare the crap out of him and obviously he still thinks of it till this day. So the seed was planted and the idea started hatching for a way to play with that fear. The Devil was going to make a comeback! A couple of weeks later at our monthly teambuilding lunch party I brought my camera to take pictures of the group and made sure to take a good one of Don with this silly grin on his face for the plan. I bought some 1 ½ big dice and printed out the picture so his face was the right size to fit on the dice and cut out just his head to glue to the snake eyes on the dice. Another guy at work had a Devil mask from the year before, but I was unable to find any kind of hands to use. Well right before Halloween this year I finally found hands at the Halloween store and was ready to set the plan into motion.
He left early Tuesday so I had the office manager let me into his office. Stuffed the Devil head with newspaper and put it on a yardstick. Put my Aerosmith hoodie over it and stuffed the arms with newspaper before zipping it up. Put that whole thing in his chair with the arms going over to the desk. One hand was on the mouse of his computer and the other hand was palm up on the desk with the dice in it showing snake eyes, or Don Eyes now. Oh and included a sign that said "I'm Baaaaaaack!" It wasnt a perfect Hollywood production, but it was VERY effective. When he came into work Halloween morning he HOWLED with laughter and has been talking about it ever since. He actually left the Devil in his chair and moved another chair behind his desk so now he has an officemate to talk to all day! The best thing is he has been rolling the dice to see if he would get Don Eyes and still hasn't. I took a try at it, just one roll...they seemed to be in slow motion as both of them tumbled and rolled before landing on Don Eyes!!!. For some strange reason, since then it seems that he's staying just a little further away from me, LOL.
Thanks again to all who entered this contest and shared their most rockin' Halloween costume stories.
